Five-Act Interview
- Friendly welcome. Welcome the guest and put him or her at ease.
- Introduction. Introduce yourself and introduce the guest.
- Context questions. Start with easy small talk, then transition to questions about the topic you’re trying to learn about.
- Main Act. Questions on main topic.
- Summary. Ask questions that prompt the guest to summarize. Then thank the customer, give him or her a gift card, and show the guest out.
Set up the room
Before participants arrive, use this checklist to prepare:
- Print copies of the publishing agreement (in case participants did not e-sign)
- Print your interview guide (for your reference).
- Gather incentives for participants (gift cards, etc).
- Grab a notepad and pens for any short notes you want to take.
- Make sure there’s a clock on the wall or table.
- Put a box of tissues in the room, just in case.
Set up your test devices and recording system
Use this checklist to prepare:
- Test video streaming and recording.
- Hide obvious personal information and remove desktop icons from computer.
- Clear web browser history, cookies, cache, and bookmarks.
- Create bookmarks or shortcuts for your references.
